As I look back, I can see that I have been creating things all my life, however, I have been focused on oil painting since 2004.  I’ve been studying with Betty Cumberland, an elderly lady in my church who has done some amazing work.  If it hadn’t been for Betty, I never would have picked up a paintbrush.

I’m a homeschooling mom with 8 children.  I don’t get much time to myself, so the kids and I have “art day” every Tuesday.

We spend a lot of time talking about colors and how they interact with each other in our paintings.  We talk about perspective and composition, what works and why.

Because I only get to paint once a week, I have time to study my works in progress as they dry, planning each step.  Well, sometimes I just start slinging paint around without much thought, too.

I believe this method, layer upon layer, gives my paintings a depth and subtle variation of color that is quite realistic, drawing you farther into the painting.

Each painting, to me, is a mystery being revealed little by little one week at a time.  I fall in love with each piece as it comes into being.
